Bet9ja Void & Settlement Rules: Postponed, Abandoned & Dead Heat

By Kelechi Kelvin Abel | Published: 8 March 2026 | Updated: 8 March 2026

You've built the perfect 10-leg accumulator. Nine selections have landed. Then the final match gets postponed due to waterlogged pitch.

What happens to your bet? Does the entire accumulator die? Do you get your money back? Or does something else happen entirely?

Understanding Bet9ja's void and settlement rules isn't just academic. It directly affects your wallet. Every season, Nigerian punters lose money they shouldn't because they don't understand how postponements, abandonments, and dead heats are settled.

⚠️ Critical: Bet9ja uses a 24-hour rule for postponed matches. If the match is replayed within 24 hours, your bet stands. If not, the selection is voided. This is stricter than some international bookmakers who use a 48-hour window.

Postponed Matches: The 24-Hour Rule

When a match is postponed before kick-off, Bet9ja applies a simple rule: if the match is rescheduled and kicks off within 24 hours of the original start time, all bets stand.

If it's not replayed within that window, the selection is voided. In an accumulator, voided selections are treated as odds of 1.00, meaning your accumulator becomes one leg shorter, but it doesn't die.

ScenarioOutcomeAccumulator Effect
Match replayed within 24 hoursBets standNo change
Match NOT replayed within 24 hoursSelection voided (odds = 1.00)5-fold → 4-fold
Match postponed + venue changedVoided (different venue = different match)Leg removed
Match postponed + rescheduled to next monthVoidedLeg removed

Why does this matter? During the rainy season in Nigeria (April-October), NPFL matches get postponed regularly. Knowing this rule saves you from panicking when your bet slip shows "Pending" for days.

Abandoned Matches: The 80-Minute Rule

A match that starts but gets abandoned mid-game is handled differently from a postponement. Bet9ja uses an 80-minute threshold.

AbandonedPre-Match MarketsIn-Play Markets
Before 80th minuteAll bets voidedSettled markets stand; unsettled voided
After 80th minuteMost markets settled on score at abandonmentSettled markets stand; unsettled voided

What "Settled Markets Stand" Means

If you bet Over 1.5 Goals and the score is 2-1 when the match is abandoned in the 85th minute, your Over 1.5 bet wins. The result was already determined before abandonment.

But if you bet Over 3.5 Goals and the score is 2-1 at abandonment, that bet is voided: because it wasn't yet settled (you needed more goals that could still have happened).

Pro tip: First Half markets (HT Result, HT Over/Under, HT BTTS) are always settled if the first half was completed: regardless of when the match is abandoned.

The Dead Heat Rule Explained

Dead heat applies to markets where multiple outcomes can tie. The most common scenario: Top Goalscorer bets where two or more players finish with the same number of goals.

Here's how dead heat settlement works:

Dead Heat Formula:

Payout = (Stake ÷ Number of Tied Outcomes) × Odds

Example: You bet ₦1,000 at odds of 8.00 on Player A to be Top Scorer. Player A ties with Player B.
Payout = (₦1,000 ÷ 2) × 8.00 = ₦4,000 (instead of ₦8,000).

Dead heat also applies to "Winning Margin" markets, group betting, and outright markets where ties are possible. Always check if the market has dead heat rules before placing large stakes.

Bet9ja restricts "related contingency" bets: selections from the same match that are statistically dependent on each other. You can't combine 1X2 Result + Over/Under from the same match in a standard accumulator.

But that's not all. Some combinations that seem unrelated are still blocked:

CombinationAllowed in Acca?Why?
Home Win + Over 2.5 (same match)✗ NoCorrelated: home wins skew towards more goals
BTTS Yes + Over 1.5 (same match)✗ NoBTTS Yes guarantees Over 1.5
Home Win (Match A) + Away Win (Match B)✓ YesDifferent matches, no correlation
HT/FT + 1X2 (same match)✗ NoFull-time result is embedded in HT/FT

Want to combine correlated selections from the same match? That's what Combo/Bet Builder markets are designed for. They price the correlation into the odds.

Extra Time & Penalty Shootouts

This catches out punters every cup weekend. The default rule on Bet9ja is clear:

⚠️ Unless a market specifically states "Including Extra Time" or "Including Penalties," all pre-match markets settle on the result after 90 minutes + injury time only.

This means if you bet on a team to win a FA Cup match and they win 2-1 after extra time (1-1 at 90 minutes), your 1X2 bet settles as a draw. The extra time goals don't count.

Markets that DO include extra time are typically labelled "To Qualify," "To Lift the Trophy," or "Match Winner (Inc. ET)." Always check the market name before placing Champions League knockout bets.

Player Substitutions & Void Rules

If you bet on a player market (e.g., Anytime Goalscorer) and that player doesn't start or come on as a substitute:

Player doesn't play at all: Bet is voided (odds = 1.00 in accumulators)

!

Player starts but gets substituted: Bet stands. If they haven't scored before substitution, the bet loses.

!

Player comes on as sub: Bet stands from the moment they enter the pitch.

This is why checking team lineups (usually released 1 hour before kick-off) is essential for player-specific bets. Follow our in-play betting guide for tips on using confirmed lineups.
